Why MPs must push Government to fast track Decentralisation in Cameroon.

For some time now,  Decentralisation has become the talk of the day in Cameroon. The efforts of the Government to fast track the Decentralisation process took an upward turn with the creation of a full flesh Ministry of Decentralisation in 2018. Has this added value to the process, the answer is not enough. Members of Parliament are the representatives of the people. By virtue of this, they are directly aware of the difficulties and economic potentials of their respective areas. It is for this singular reason that we of the Eagle's Eye think that MPs have a premodial role to push the Government to accelerate the  Decentralisation process in the Country.

Before I dive squarely on the role of MPs to push forward this process, permit me to highlight some of the benefits of Decentralisation. The Government alone cannot employ everybody so municipal councils should be empowered to champion local development ventures that can create employment. It is becoming practically impossible for the Government to carry out a balance development in Cameroon. To remedy this,  Regional Councils should be given more resources to carry out  their own development.

As far as Members of Parliament are concerne, we confidently think that they can push for legislation that can lead to the creation of special funds to be attributed to Councils to fund  development projects. This of course is advocating for an increase of the budget allocation of the Ministry of Decentralisation so the latter can step up its activities of improving the capabilities of Councils. This move can be achieved through a bypartian effort because every Member of Parliament wish the best for his or her people.
